Hy-Vee, Inc. is an employee-owned corporation operating more than 200 retail stores in seven Midwestern states. We provide career opportunities for 46,000 employees and generate annual sales in excess of $3.8 billion, ranking us among the top 15 supermarket chains in the nation.
Throughout our territory, the name Hy-Vee is synonymous with quality products, low prices and superior customer service. Our slogan, "A Helpful Smile In Every Aisle," expresses the foundation of our corporate philosophy.

Hy-Vee supermarkets are located in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota. We also operate Drug Town drug stores in Iowa and Nebraska.
Hy-Vee's combination food and drug centers reflect the changing lifestyles of today's consumers. The emphasis is on freshness, variety and one-stop shopping convenience.

To support our retail operations, Hy-Vee has established a distribution system that secures the highest quality merchandise and transports it quickly and efficiently to our customers.
Hy-Vee's main distribution complex is located in Chariton, IA. A second distribution facility is located in Cherokee, IA. A Proud Tradition
Hy-Vee was founded in 1930 by Charles Hyde and David Vredenburg, who opened a small general store in Beaconsfield, IA. In 1938 they incorporated as Hyde & Vredenburg, Inc., with 15 stores and 16 stockholders. The current company name, Hy-Vee, is a contraction of our founders' names.
In those early years, company offices were located in Lamoni, IA. The company moved to Chariton, IA in 1945 to gain access to rail services, and in 1948 constructed the first office/warehouse complex. The corporate offices moved to West Des Moines in 1995.
From the beginning, Hy-Vee has been employee-owned. Profits are shared with employees through The Hy-Vee and Affiliates Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plan and a combination of bonus, commission and incentive systems.
